The Faith in Action team coordinates and sponsors events each year that has a positive impact on individuals and the surrounding communion. These impact ministries reflect our commitment as a community of faith to share the love of God through service to our neighbor.
HUNGER MINISTRY
We were able to serve at UNLIU (University Lutheran) Feast Incarnate 3 evenings this year. March 1st, May 31st, November 29th. This is a weekly hospitality ministry where a meal is served for people affected by HIV/AIDS and others in need of food in the community of University City in Philadelphia.. A big thank you to all of the volunteer cooks, shoppers, servers and drivers!!
INGATHERING
We gather gifts and other items to be distributed through Lutheran Services throughout the five county area in the Southeastern Pennsylvania. Here are a few annual events:
- Gift for children at Christmas
- Breakfast bags for seniors
- Educational and consumable supplies for Central Philadelphia congregations
MEAL PACKING EVENT
CLC members partner with Rise Against Hunger to pack 10,000 meals for shipment to oversee schools to support learning by providing meals to students who otherwise may not have a nutritious meal at home. Click here to view a recent meal packing event at CLC.
WELCOME CHURCH
CLC members participated in the Welcome Church on April 3 and October 2. Members attended and handed out food after the service. The Welcome Church is an ELCA congregation proclaiming the hope and love of a gracious God to all people and especially to people experiencing homelessness.
WISSAHICKON CREEK CLEANUP
On April 25 approximately 10 members of CLC participated in WVWA creek clean up. A huge pile of trash was removed from the Sandy Run Creek next to our church. Everyone had a great time and it was wonderful day of fellowship.
