CELEBRATE THE PAST CLC Memorial and Endowment Funds For many decades, members and friends of Christ’s Lutheran Church have followed the practice of contributing monetary gifts to the church in memory and honor of loved ones, relatives, and friends. In the late 1980s, Church Council appointed a committee (comprised of Pastor Mike Carlson, Lou Eble, Bill Imhof, Hal Leneweaver, Tom Durchsprung, and John Frantz) to develop proposed changes to the church’s Constitution & Bylaws that would establish a Memorial Fund and an Endowment Fund, and describe the operating procedures for both of these funds. At the church’s annual meeting on January 28, 1990, the committee’s proposed changes were approved by the congregation and they remain in effect today. How does the Memorial Fund operate? -
Funds given in memory and honor of loved ones to the Memorial Fund are invested when they are received. -
Gift principal can be designated by name and ultimately expended for a use that is agreed upon jointly by the family of the person being honored and the church. -
Gift principal can also be assigned to the Unrestricted Memorial Fund, to be used whenever and however the church determines from recommendations made through the E&M committee, and with approval of Church Council. -
Income earned from the principal of all Memorial Funds is accumulated in the Unrestricted Memorial Fund. Unlike the Endowment Fund, both the principal and income amounts in Memorial Funds are available for expenditure. How is the Endowment Fund different from the Memorial Fund? -
Gifts contributed to the Endowment Fund are intended to remain in place as a perpetual principal amount from which only the income earned from the investment is expended, except in an emergency situation with approval by the congregation. -
This fund gives members and friends of our church opportunities to support the long-term ministries of the church during and beyond their lifetimes. -
In accordance with the church’s bylaws, income earned from the principal in this fund can be distributed and used for any purpose that enhances the mission of the congregation either at home or throughout the world, and which is above and beyond the programs funded through the church’s operating budget. Benefits Resulting from Gifts Contributed to the CLC Memorial Fund -

Benefits Resulting from Income Earned in the CLC Endowment Fund -
Initial funding of the church’s Endowment Fund in 1990 was provided by transfers of the then existing Aiman, Garland, and Wray Memorial Funds. -
Since that time, additional gifts have been made to the Endowment Fund from the Suitor, Jones, Anderson, and Trilling Memorial Funds, as well as through direct gifts from the Reese and Stier Estates. -
These gifts bring the principal in the Endowment Fund today to $97,086. -
During the past 16 years, these funds have been invested and $52,962 of the income earned from the principal has been distributed for uses that enhance our church and its mission. -
Income from this fund has provided a portion of the dollars required for the following: | Church elevator | Sound system | | Chapel Heating | Video projector | | With One Voice hymnals | Selected furniture | Because of the thoughtfulness and desire to contribute special gifts that would produce a continuing benefit to Christ’s Lutheran Church and its mission, donors have created a legacy to their God and church. What is the Hank Jones Fund? -
In 1994 the Hank Jones Fund was established with a principal contribution of $180,275 from the Estate of Henry Jones. -
Income earned from this fund is to be distributed to two organizations. -
Each year Boy Scout Troop #1 at CLC receives the first $2,500 of income earned and the remaining income is distributed to the Helping Hand Fund for its mission. -
Since its inception in 1994, $30,000 has been provided to the Boy Scout Troup and $71,015 to Helping Hand from this fund’s income. Because of Henry Jones’ vision, his legacy of benevolence lives on at Christ’s Lutheran Church and its surrounding community.
