Every Sunday from September through May, the halls of Christ's Church are alive with the sounds of children, teachers, and parents learning together. Sunday School begins at 9 AM, with classes for children ages 2 to 5th grade. The youngest children enjoy crafts, snacks, and Bible stories. In this class, parents, etc. are invited to stay with their little ones. Children ages pre-kindergarten and up work with the "Exploring Faith" curriculum. At 10 A.M, Sunday Schoolers grades 1 through 5 meet in the chapel for song, prayer and special activities. We dismiss at 10:15. Other special elements of the Sunday School experience:
Outreach: Every year the Sunday School undertakes a special service project. The kids have provided significant support to Heifer International, the Rosebud Lakota Reservation in South Dakota, Habitat for Humanity, the Ninh Thuan Orphanage in Vietnam and Covenant House. Christmas Eve Family Service: Each Christmas Eve at 4 PM, the children lead a beautiful worship service, playing roles in a pageant, singing carols, and playing instruments. Christmas Pagaent 2008 HEY ADULTS: GROWING IN YOUR FAITH IS NOT JUST FOR CHILDREN! (Adult Forum Changes and Expands) If you don't know all there is to know about God or the Bible, if you're not into research and lecture classes, CLC wants YOU to come join others in the same boat! We're revamping the Sunday schedule, still offering Tuesday mornings and adding two more options. Pick the one (or several) that suits your interests and schedule.
SUNDAY ADULT EDUCATION, AT CLC! Sundays, January 31, February 14 and 21 Dinner with a Perfect Stranger Suppose you received an invitation to have dinner with Jesus. What would you discuss? What questions would you like to ask him? A modern dinner conversation with Jesus is the premise of a book written by David Gregory. The adult forum will be discussing Gregory's short (100 pages), but powerful, book on three Sundays, January 31, February 14 and 21, from 9 AM to 10:15 AM. Not sure whether this book is worth reading and discussing? One hundred and fifty four Amazon readers rated the books 4 1/2 stars out of five. Here what one reviewer, Erik Wilson, said about the book. "I'm a skeptic when it comes to little books that are supposed to pack a big punch. They seem shallow, glib, and over-simplified. Usually. I read "Dinner with a Perfect Stranger" in one sitting. Yes, it's short; yes, it's simple; but it's also profoundly moving. There are no big surprises--a few little ones--and no hit-you-in-the-gut emotional twists. Instead, the author moves us through this meal with Jesus in such a way that I wanted to kick back and have coffee and dessert too. I wanted to meet Jesus face to face and ask some of my own questions. The author handles many subjects within his dinner conversation, and he does so with grace and wisdom. Nick Cominsky, our main character, deals with Jesus in sarcastic tones, and Jesus responds in ways that seem downright believable, wise, and funny. I liked this realistic tone of the dialogue. Please join John Frantz in Room 203 on Sunday, January 31st, and February 7th and 14th at 9:00am to discussfascinating book. Dinner with a Perfect Stranger is available from Amazon for under $10, or contact John Frantz (215-8854812) for a copy.
