MAY/JUNE 2012 The Columbarium & Memorial Garden at Christ’s Church YOUR FINAL RESTING PLACE Nobody wants to think about cemetery plots, columbarium niches or memorial garden interments. Yes, once you are gone you won't care anyway. But your family will have to deal with what to do with your remains. It will be difficult enough when your loved ones are grieving your loss. Will you make them decide how and where your final resting place will be? Consider whether you would like to be in the Columbarium or Memorial Garden at Christ's Church, your church, or a commercial cemetery or mausoleum. The choice is yours...don't put it off. Below is a picture of the Memorial Garden overlooking the Columbarium and Memorial plaques. For information on a reservation contact John Frantz (215-885-4812, mifrantz@comcast.net), or other members of the Columbarium & Memorial Garden Committee, Glenn Griffin (215-641-0172, glenn@griffpage.com) or Tim Keller (215-887-8116, kellertim@comcast.net). DECEMBER 2011 BILL & MARIE ENGLISH INURNED IN COLUMBARIUM On Tuesday, November 1, Bill and Marie English were inurned in the Christ's Lutheran Church Columbarium. Theirs became the second occupied niche. The inurnment followed the memorial service for Marie who died in October. Marie English was loved by everyone who had the pleasure to know her. She was active in the choir and Christian education, and was the church librarian. Bill English, Sr., who died in 2006, was a church council president and served for many years on the property committee, with the Monday Morning Men, maintaining the church plant. A constant reminder of Bill is the 1905 inscribed Christ's Lutheran Church bell in the Narthex, along with the picture that shows Bill rescuing the bell from the Plymouth Avenue church steeple. Bill and Marie English joined Christ's Church in 1958. Their four sons Bill, Steve, Mark, and David, who grew up in the church, were present for the memorial service and inurnment. Bill and Marie spent the bulk of their spiritual journey on earth at Christ's Church. It is fitting that their final resting place is here at the church they loved. Presented here is a picture of the English niche cover. It is located in the Columbarium which faces the lower parking lot. If you are interested in information pertaining to a niche in the Columbarium or a reservation for the Me-morial Garden, there is a display table in the Narthex where you can see a sample niche and urn. DECEMBER 2009 Herman Thoenebe was my next door neighbor. Besides being an artist, gourmet cook, and dollhouse maker – all activities he started after he retired – he wrote a column for The Ambler Gazette titled “Gray Matter.” Cleaning out a desk drawer recently I found an article of his I saved titled “Easing Bye-Bye Blues.” The words of his opening paragraph in that article struck me. “Today I’d like to touch on a subject all of us, young and old, must one time face up to. One day hence you are going to give up the ghost, cash in your chips, kick the bucket. To make the occasion easier for those who have to see you off, it might be well to spend a few moments with some of the details.” Nobody wants to think about their death and burial arrangements. But if you don’t take care of the details now you force your grieving relatives to guess what you want and force them to make difficult decisions. Christ’s Church is working on a project to build a Columbarium and Memorial Garden. When this project is built it will provide a burial option for members and friends of the congregation. People can be cremated and inurned in a niche in the Columbarium or be interred in the Memorial Garden. Why be inurned in the Columbarium or interred in the Memorial Garden?
Thirty people have already decided to commit to the Columbarium and Memorial Garden project. Columbarium cost for two people is $1,750 ($1,500 for one). A Memorial Garden reservation is $350. Whether you decide to join the others in committing to Christ Church’s Columbarium and Memorial Garden or not, DON’T PUT OFF MAKING YOUR BURIAL ARRANGEMENTS. One day your family will be glad you did. Brochures are in the Narthex or are available from the church office. For more information, contact John Frantz at 215-885-4812 or mifrantz@comcast.net.
