Volunteer

Here is a list of volunteer opportunities. Please contact the church office to find out who to contact for each committee.

Acolyte/Crucifer – They are ministers for the church, lighting the way and helping lead worship at the 10:30 service.  Great for youth!

Altar Guild – Altar Guild members prepare the altar for worship each week, including preparing communion materials. After the 10:30 service, they also arrange the altar flowers to be delivered to members who cannot worship with us. Great for a person who likes to make things neat and tidy!

Altar & Holiday Flower Delivery – It’s nice to know that people at your church care about you and miss you when you are not able to get to church. Flowers and plants brighten up a person’s day. Want to put a smile on someone’s face? Doesn’t take long and it’s so appreciated.

Communion Assistant – On Communion Sundays (1st and 3rd of the month, and some special occasions) two lay people help the pastors as communion assistants. They administer the cup (“The blood of Christ, shed for you.”).  This is a very important job, and easy to do – you just have to know how to pour!

Counter – Good with math? This great team counts all the money that comes in during services on Sunday mornings, regular and special envelopes, etc. Time: right after the 10:30 service, in the church office. Fun for those who enjoy working with $$$$!

Greeter – These folks greet everyone at the door as they arrive for worship at the 10:30 service. They are the first faces everyone sees at Christ’s on a Sunday morning, giving a warm welcome to members and visitors, too. Friendly personality? Nice smile? This one’s for you!

Green Team – Get in on the ground floor of this new ministry that is planning to promote environmental initiatives in our church and community. Got some ideas on how to save the planet starting in our own backyard?

Home Communion Team – Visit one-on-one with homebound members and take them Holy Communion. About 4 visits a month, according to your schedule. Good listener? Love to chat? This team is for you!

Homeless Ministry – CLC provides meals at University Lutheran Church and The Welcome Church. Help is needed to procure and cook food at our church. People are needed to transport the food to the church on the University of Pennsylvania campus or to the Parkway. Volunteers prepare plates and give food to the people. Want to feel that you have made a difference for someone in need?

Hospitality – This ministry arranges all the great food-related activity at Christ’s. There are many different ways to serve in hospitality – host a coffee hour or soup supper with some friends, help with the Christmas luncheon, etc. Can you cook or bake? Do you like throwing parties?  Why not provide some goodies for your church family from time to time?

Lector – Each week, at the 10:30 service, there are two chances to bring the Word of God to our congregation. Lectors read the first two lessons of the day and lead the congregation in the psalm response.  Perform in your school plays? Have a nice clear speaking voice and enjoy communicating with people? Become a lector!

Men’s Group – Every now and then a guy needs to get out of the house and bond with his fellow man. Join the fun or volunteer to create a fun event with others.

Monday Morning Men – A revitalized ministry to spruce up the building and grounds of the church has just begun. The MMM meet on Monday mornings from 9 to noon to tackle whatever odd jobs need to be done to maintain the church. Need to get out of the house? Come on down whenever you’re free and join the crew.

Musician – Instrumental musicians add greatly to our worship. Whether it is flute or piano, guitar or drums, trumpet or trombone, there is a place for all instrumentalists at church. Add something special to Christmas and Easter services, accompany the choir, present special music in the summer when the choir is on vacation  … there are so many possibilities! What instrument can you play? Here’s your chance to make a lot of noise at church.

Nursery – Each week the nursery crew supervises young children in the church nursery while their parents are at the 10:30 service. The nursery needs YOU!

Office Volunteers – Handy around the office? Could you cover the office during a vacation or illness. Can you fold bulletins? Yes, you can, and it’s more fun than you think and a very important job.

Peace Meals – Could you provide a meal for one of your fellow members who has had an operation and is recovering at home, or has another temporary need to provide a good meal for their family?

Property – There are always projects to be done in clearing up and improving our facilities, both inside and out. Some are year-round, some are seasonal, and some are one-time special occasions. Do you enjoy gardening? Are you handy with a paintbrush or a hammer? Then Property would be a terrific ministry to consider!

Livestream – Info to come

Usher – They hand out the bulletins, take up the collection, help with communion, and more! Ushers are terrific worship helpers, keeping everything running smoothly during the service. Everyone is welcome to usher. This is another perfect fit for friendly faces and helping hands!
